Allow me to introduce myself

Jaime McHenry over at Faeries are Real put up an introduction post for the Campaign with links to old posts relevant to who he was as a writer, and I thought that was such a great idea that I’m stealing it from him :)

Many of you might know me as the girl who is writing the unpronounceable book, Fie Eoin (E-own), which is now known as The Nameless Warrior, or perhaps you found me through my My Little Pony obsession. Of course, you could be a fan of The Dark Tower series, writing-based Role Playing, or WoW. Maybe you like X-men, even though I haven’t posted about it yet. Or you could be a Tea Tree Oil worshiper, which I also haven’t posted about yet, although it probably rivals my MLP obsession (it is my Windex). Or maybe you don’t know me at all.

In that case, let me introduce myself :) I’m Becka – I’m a nuclear chemist in Charleston, SC and I write whenever I can find a spare moment. I can write 335 words on a single 3×3 sticky note, and since I’m allowed to carry sticky notes at work that’s how I write most of my novels. See all those names just below the banner? Those are my books. None of them published yet – most of them haven’t gone beyond the rough draft stage during NaNoWriMo. I’m working on Fie Eoin (New Adult Fantasy) first, and then I’ll be changing gears to work on Apollo and Daphne, a contemporary YA re-telling of the Apollo and Daphne myth.

I have a muse named Ellison, and my characters live in a Cafe in my head. When editing I’m a big fan of Occam’s Razor. And I always, ALWAYS, fight for my story, because no one else will.

I’ve also been tagged twice in the past week by fellow Campaigners Leah and C. Lee! So to satisfy the “facts about me” section of the rules here we go, ten things about me:

1. I love to talk about myself (duh, I have a blog) but when it comes to these facts about me I always draw blanks.

2. I’m slightly ambidextrous, which is convenient when I’ve broken my right collarbone and write all my stories by hand.

3. I broke that collarbone just after my 21st birthday when I came home from the bar and fell off hubby’s shoulders (he was still my boyfriend at the time). Needless to say, he’s not allowed to pick me up anymore ;)

4. I am not afraid of heights, but hubby is. That’s why I was on his shoulders, and he wasn’t on mine ;) (also, I can’t pick him up :P ). I love going across giant ravines on rope bridges and pretending I’m a bird. Hubs has to walk across them as quickly as possible or he hyperventilates.

5. When I was little I used to pretend to be a cheetah. I scraped holes in all my pants walking around on all fours hissing at people.

6. If you offered me a bowl of fruit or a bowl of ice cream I would take the fruit. I would take fruit over any dessert, although I dreamed of cookies last night…

7. I used to be obsessed with twins. I always wanted to have twins growing up, and in High School I had a friend whose name was almost the same as mine, so we became “twins”. That friend was a boy. We even got some of the teachers to believe us :)

8. Laundry is my absolute least favorite chore! I hate folding clothes. With a passion. I usually let them sit in the basket until hubs gets mad and makes me do it.

9. I’m a total foodie, but I can’t cook. I burned rice last week (seriously – how easy is rice?) but I can make quiche (and that’s about the only thing I can make). And yet I’m a chemist. Fear for my co-workers, world.

10. I will go to Apollo’s Temple at Delphi before I die. I have made this a life goal.

Tag! I’m it. And now you’re it!

I’ve been Tagged! Another fun little meme is going around, and I was tagged by Juliana Brandt! Stick around after the answers for some questions from me to you :)

Do you think you’re hot? This is just an evil question. My husband tells me I’m hot (as he should), let’s leave it at that. Or you can judge for yourself, my photo is right there.

Upload a picture or wallpaper that you’re using at the moment.

Camden Valley, home of the Seven Tribes of Aleda (including Fie Eoin)

When was the last time you ate chicken meat? Two days ago, and I’m not proud of that moment (I try not to support this particular chicken place). I would make excuses, but the chickens can’t hear them anyways.

The song(s) you listened to recently. I’ve been on a huge Elizabeth and the Catapult kick lately.

What were you thinking as you were doing this? I really should be working right now… oh crap, here comes my boss. *closes window and smiles*

Do you have nicknames? What are they? Becka, Poe/Pokey (I’m very slow in the mornings), Bella (Hubs has called me this since we met, it way pre-dates sparkly vampires), Beans (my middle name is Bayn, but used to be spelled Bean in Scotland. Funnily enough the people who call me Beans didn’t know that at first), Pone or Delphinbella if you are a MLP collector, Echo/Lee if you are into X-men.

Tag 8 blogging friends… I’m tagging eight brand new blogging friends that I met through Twitter and #myWANA! Don’t know what #myWANA is? Check out the link: http://warriorwriters.wordpress.com/join-the-love-revolution-mywana/

  1. Angela Wallace
  2. Raelyn Barclay
  3. Lyn Midnight (she was already tagged, but I like her blog :P )
  4. Angela Scott (also already tagged)
  5. Amanda Nester
  6. Katie Ganshert
  7. Sonia Medeiros
  8. Lissa Writes

Who’s listed as No. 1? Angela, who can draw the most beautiful My Little Ponies! She’s got an insightful blog, and a book on Smashwords about a Phoenix!

Say something about No. 5 She is a Michigander :D And plays WoW! Trust me, you’ll like her.

How did you get to know No. 3? Through #myWANA on Twitter. We’re both trying to figure out how to do this social media thing the right way (more on that at the bottom of the post).

How about No. 4. I met her on Twitter as well, but not through #myWANA (I believe she was a Crusader). She’ll stalk your blog if you ask nicely :P

Leave a message for No. 6 Your books sound amazing! I can’t wait to read them!

Leave a lovey dovey message for No. 2. o.O I don’t really know her that well. But I’ll leave a lovey dovey message for her new puppy, who is an adorable bully breed!

Do No. 7 and No. 8 have any similarities? Other than being on Twitter and having just met them? I honestly have no idea :P But now that I’ve found them we can get to know them together ^_^

That’s it for the meme, but since I mentioned #myWANA I thought I’d ask you guys a few questions. Kristen Lamb, the creator of #myWANA talks about a writer’s blog being about more than just writing. After years of trying this blogging thing out and only recently finding an audience I agree with her, but I’m not sure what else to talk about. Just like everyone else I have a long list of interests, but is there anything you want to talk about? You already know I like My Little Ponies, and WoW, and if you’ve been around long enough I’m sure you’ve heard me wax poetic about Tea Tree Oil, The Dark Tower Series, and my huge science boner (especially when it comes to fish, and all things ocean in general). And dogs, especially pitty breeds. And…

Well, you get the picture. So, what do YOU want to talk about? Let’s find some common ground other than writing. That way I can say for sure if person 7 and person 8 on future lists have any similarities :) So go ahead: throw out a topic, ask me a question, whatever you want.

Fie Eoin Fridays: Aleda’s Story #6

First, for those of you playing along with the Memetastic Award, the truth was…..

#2. I started writing because I played in a My Little Pony RPG when I was in college. I had to make up a backstory for my character and I never stopped writing after that.

I do like calamari (although not as much as octopus); I do have a sapphire ring, but it’s not my engagement ring; I do wear the color pink (just look at the shirt in my avatar ;P); and I don’t hate zombie films, or vampires :)

Thanks for playing! And now, on to Aleda’s Story:

Catch up on the story so far: #1, #2, #3, #4, #5

It was still morning when Carrick found Aleda trudging back along the river from Gaerlom. Her feet slipped on the mossy ground, exhausted from too much stress and too little sleep. But she held the offering in her arms, and she would not let go.

“For Awena, Lea, you could have been killed!” Carrick grabbed her shoulders and she welcomed the strength of him. “What could be so important that you would risk your life?”

She stood up straight and pulled back a corner of the leather. Underneath was the tiny, red-splotched face of a newborn child. It was weak – too weak to cry – and she doubted it had even been fed before being left as an offering to the ocean. The People of the Sea returning the newest child of Mountain.

“Elise’s little boy,” she said, throat raw from crying and thirst. “They put him in the cove to die.”

Carrick looked at her. “He’s a changeling?”

She nodded.

“I thought no more changelings were born? All the newest babes have been normal.”

She shrugged. “This one has wings. They left him in the cove.”

Carrick’s fingers gently touched the babe’s forehead and he took the child from her arms. “How did you know to go back?” His voice held a touch of awe that made her uncomfortable.

“I didn’t.” She handed the babe over, glad to be relieved of her burden for a while. “I went back for supplies but they ransacked our home. So I tried to retrieve your emergency pack in the cove and there he was. I…I couldn’t reach your pack, and all I brought back was another mouth to feed.”

Tears rolled down her face slowly. “I’m sorry, Carrie. I didn’t do us any good.”

“Shh.” Carrick held the babe in one hand and wiped her tears away with the other. “You did good, Lea. You saved another child. There’s nothing bad about that. Hush now. Lisel can feed the babe and Alaric will be happy to see you. Come.”

He took her hand and lead her along the river, slowing when she slipped and telling her stories of the children at the camp. “They have found a mushroom that looks like something from the ocean.”

“They didn’t eat it?” She grabbed his arm in panic.

“Of course they did – they’re children.”

Aleda’s eyes widened as she imagined what she was coming back to. A dozen children poisoned or hallucinating, emptying their tiny stomachs and crying in a chorus of misery. She only had one cup and a limited supply of herbs. What would she do?

“Lea, they’re fine. The mushrooms are edible.”

Edible. It was hard to believe. After all they had been through they found a food source. They couldn’t survive on mushrooms alone, but it would extend the supplies they brought with them.

Carrick continued through her shock. “And I’ve found some mudbugs in the stream.”

“Crabs?”

“More like tiny lobsters. But they are all over the rocks.” His eyes were gleaming with hope. “You were right. It’s a good spot. Blessed by Awena.”

She shook her head. “You were right – it’s too close. As soon as Alaric can hobble and Erie is healthy we should move.”

As if proving her point the stream turned and they were already at the camp, the children crowding around them to see what she brought back. Lisel shooed the children away as she hurried over. “You won’t believe what the children found.”

“You won’t believe what I found,” Aleda said and turned to Carrick as he uncovered the babe.

“A changeling?” Lisel’s hand found her mouth as she stared down at it. Her own new babe was normal and none of them expected to see another changeling child again.

Aleda nodded. “They left him in the cove. Carrick already told me about the mushrooms.”

Lisel’s smile turned from the new babe to Aleda, and she looked relieved for the first time since they left Gaerlom. The wrinkles around her brow had smoothed a bit, and her eyes were no longer full of fear. “Not mushrooms. A cave. A huge cave in the mountains, with an entrance hidden from view and a space big enough for all of us, plus more. It’s damp inside, but it’s damp out here too.”

Aleda and Carrick looked at each other in shock. It was impossible that they had found safety so close to Gaerlom.

Lisel took the babe from them. “Gissy, show Carrick and Lea the cave, hmm?”

Gisel grabbed Aleda’s hand and pulled her with a child’s excitement. When they reached the mountainside the little girl let go and crawled behind a bush, disappearing from sight. Carrick moved the branches aside to reveal a gaping hole in the wall, Gisel’s little face smiling from it. They followed her in, ducking their heads and trailing their hands along the damp wall of the shallow, dark tunnel before the space opened up before them, lit by small shafts of light that pierced the ceiling.

“Oh Carrie.” Aleda’s voice caught as she reached for his hand. The size of the cavern was dizzying. A small tribe could live here, it was so large.

Carrick squeezed her hand. “I think Mountain will provide for his children after all.”

Aleda began crying again.

I’ve been tagged!

It’s meme day at SNS, since I haven’t done any memes in a while and I know I’ve gotten a few I haven’t passed on yet.

The first award was from my awesome critter Angela and I love it because it’s such a bright, happy green! Thank you Angela!

The rules:

  • Thank and link to the person who nominated me. (check!)
  • Share seven random facts about myself. (see below)
  • Pass the award along to 15 new-found blogging buddies. (I’m cheating)
  • Contact those buddies to congratulate them. (will do!)

So, seven random facts about myself that I haven’t spoken of before:

1. I cannot straighten my pinkie fingers. Either of them. I was born with short tendons and the one time I did straighten one it hurt so bad! Then it popped back into crooked place and I was fine.

2. I hate mouths. They freak me out. I hate teeth whitening commercials and billboards and I think dentists are some of the creepiest people in the world. I could never have children because I couldn’t teach them to brush their teeth or check them for sore throats. Bleh.

3. I don’t want children anyways. I’m horribly absentminded and selfish, and I would probably neglect the kid. The dogs and cats, on the other hand, don’t allow me to sit still for more than five seconds before they are on top of me (I do realize that children would do this too, which is another reason I don’t want children :P )

4. Despite all that, I love two year olds. Terrible twos? No way. Best age ever!

5. I love eating the parts of animals that everyone else is scared of or grossed out by. The tongue, the liver, the sweetbreads and brains and blood and tripe! I will try just about anything once (not spiders) and my favorite food in the world is octopus, marinated in wine and olive oil and served cold.

6. I’m a Pagan, and Aleda really is my patron goddess. I couldn’t find any goddesses that fit perfectly with my world-view, so I made my own :) Apollo is my patron god.

7. I also celebrate Fie Eoin’s Festivals. They all land on regular Pagan festival days, so it works out well (except the Warrior’s Ceremony, which is on my birthday! :P ) The Festival of Aleda is on Imbolc (Feb 2nd) and Trina’s Day is Beltaine (May 1st).

Whew! That’s harder than you think. Especially since I’ve told seven random facts about myself a few times before.

The next award is the Memetastic Award, given to me by AM Simpson! Thank you AM!

The rules:

■You must proudly display the award in a post. (done!)
■You must list 5 things about yourself and 4 of the 5 must be lies.
(your readers must guess which one is the truth)
■And you must then pass this prestigious award on, to 5 deserving bloggers.

So, four lies and a truth:

1. As I said above, octopus is my favorite food. But I can’t stand squid! Which is funny, because most people love squid (calamari) and would never try octopus.

2. I started writing because I played in a My Little Pony RPG when I was in college. I had to make up a backstory for my character and I never stopped writing after that.

3. I have a sapphire engagement ring because the entire rest of my family has sapphire engagement rings and I wanted to follow in their footsteps. Of course, their sapphires are all bigger and darker :P

4. I hate the color pink and never wear it.

5. Although I eat brains I hate zombie films. I think it’s the lack of expression and/or emotion. Or maybe I’m scared I’m a zombie because I eat brains. Either way, not a big zombie fan. (I also hate vampires)

Can you guess which one is the truth?

And finally, I’ve been tagged by Misha with a little meme of questions!

1. If you could go back in time and relive a moment, what would it be? Probably my wedding day. It went by so fast, and I can barely remember any of it only five years later.

2. If you could go back in time and change one thing, what would it be? I would have taken the advanced genetics lab in college, even if it meant having to change my schedule all around. I really wish I would have done that.

3. What Movie/TV character do you most resemble in personality? haha! I just had to answer this for a interview I’m doing on Cally Jackson’s blog next week! It’s a difficult question, and I decided on Gaius Baltar from Battlestar Gallactica. He’s not a good guy, or a bad guy, but he keeps getting lucky despite being wimpy and selfish, and in the end he shapes up and does what’s right.

4. If you could push one person off a cliff and get away with it, who would it be? Only one? Jim DeMint.

5. Name one habit that you want to change in yourself. I bite my nails constantly and they look awful. I’ve been trying to stop since I was a kid, but so far the only thing that has worked is wearing gloves in the lab all day. Now that I work in the data processing area I don’t wear gloves all day and I ruin my fingers.

6. Describe yourself in one word. Daydreamer.

7. Describe the person who named you in this meme in one word. Determined.

8. Why do you blog? Answer in one sentence. To connect with other writers and get my work out there.

9. Name at least three people to send this meme to. And inform them.

Angela Perry

AM Simpson

Amy Ravenel

And as for the new bloggers from the awards above, I’m going to send you to the only new blog I’ve found and haven’t given an award to already. Although Amalia Dillin is taking a short blog hiatus, she’s got a lot of awesome mythology-related posts. I’ve really enjoyed reading her blog!

Other than her, check my sidebar! All of those blogs have earned awards from me at one time or another, and I love them all!

Another Blog Award!

I told you last week about the Irresistibly Sweet award that I won, but I also received the Stylish Blogger Award from Laura AND Cally! (and you wondered why they are irresistibly sweet?) Thank you ladies!

The rules:

  1. Link back to the award givers.
  2. State Seven things about myself.
  3. Pass on the award to 15 recently discovered bloggers.

Seven Things about me!

1. I got married on an island that doesn’t allow cars. Everything is horse drawn carriages and bicycles, and I paid for my wedding by selling my collection of My Little Ponies (I had over three hundred at the time – it was quite a chunk of change). There were only 16 people present, including my hubby and I.

2. Sugar gives me bad canker sores, so I’ve stopped eating it. The smell of frosting now makes my stomach turn.

3. I’m starting to sorta, kind of enjoy editing. But don’t tell my WIP that ;)

4. I have been to Trinidad and Tobago twice, and Costa Rica once. The food was better in Trinidad, but the people are nicer in Costa Rica. The second time I went to Trinidad my HR manager’s parents made me a home-cooked Trini meal and it was awesome. They moved out of the country a few months later because it became too dangerous to stay.

5. All through High School I wanted to be a jazz singer. I almost failed Chemistry and decided I wanted to be a biologist when I dissected my first fish. All through college I wanted to be a marine biologist and ended up becoming a chemist instead. Now I want to be a writer. And I never sing anymore.

6. I am so scared of needles that when I broke my collarbone I wouldn’t let them give me morphine. Of course, I couldn’t fight back so they gave it to me anyways. And now I work with needles everyday (but still don’t like them coming at me!).

7. I believe in other worlds. I believe that Fie Eoin is out there somewhere in some other universe, and that I lived there once. But I do not believe I was Kindra, because that’s just crazy ;)

And now, 15 new-to-me bloggers that I think deserve the Stylish Blogger Award! (I could just point you to my sidebar of Crusaders, but that seems like cheating ;P)

Whew! That’s a lot of new blogs to check out. And one of those lovely bloggers up there (LB Diamond, to be exact) is holding a Nature of Magic Blogfest! Go check it out if you are interested, and pop back over here on the 26th to find out what I believe the nature of magic is, as well as a little taste of the magic in Fie Eoin.

And later this week I’ll be back with a post saying that I’m done editing. I swear it this time! (This is taking much longer than I thought it would)

A Blog Award! And editing.

Let’s start with the fun part, shall we? I received THREE blog awards in the past week (well, technically two, since two of them are the same award from different people :P ). Since they both have “tell us something about yourself” and “tag X number of people” rules I’m going to break them up into two different posts. One today and one in a couple days when I’m finally done with edits.

The awesome Claudie A – another scientist/fantasy writer/NaNo ML – gave me the Irresistibly Sweet Blog Award:

Thank you Claudie!

The rules:

1. Thank and link back to the person who gave you this award.
2. Share four guilty pleasures that you have.
3. Pass the award on to six other blogs.

Four guilty pleasures:

1. Nonni’s Decadence Biscotti. It’s full of sugar and it makes my mouth hurt, but I love it so much that I don’t care. I’ll eat a whole box of these in two days and then not be able to eat anything else for a week. So worth it!

2. Fanfic. Whether it’s Invader Zim or My Little Pony, X-men or Dark Tower, or even fics of my own characters I love to read and write Fanfics. MLP fanfic is what got me started writing in the first place – how could I ever give it up?

3. World of Warcraft. This cuts in to my writing time so much when I’m on a WoW kick, but the game is so freaking PRETTY. And sometimes you just need to come home and kick some bad-guy butt.

4. Laying in bed looking out the window with the dogs locked out of the room. There’s a little park behind my house, and a lot of trees, and a pretty white house beyond that and I love to just open the blinds and stare outside on weekend mornings when hubby thinks I’m sleeping. Or, if the day is rainy and gray I’ll spend the time reading a book.

And now six blogs that are irresistibly sweet!

Laura J Moss

Cally Jackson

Heather McCorkle

Rachael Harrie

Angela Perry

Sophia Chang

(ok, so I know the last two won the Write Hard award last month, but Angela didn’t have a blog then, and they both really deserve it. Because they are sweet, and the best critters a writer could have!)

And speaking of critters, and critiques, and editing: I’m almost done! I have three more chapters to type up and then line edits on chapters 6-10, and the first half of Fie Eoin will be heading to my writing group! And I’ve got GREAT new ideas for the second half now. I really can’t wait to be writing again (ok, so I might have wasted some editing time by writing this one scene…but it’s an awesome scene and I couldn’t let it slip away!)

Congrats to my super-sweet winners, and I’ll post the next award when my edits are finished!

Write Hard Award

I have received a huge honor from Laura J Moss, a writer-friend I met on Twitter who was part of the NaNo Blogchain and likes to make fun of SC politicians with me (she also shares my love of the environment and kittens, but mostly we make fun of Sanford, Wilson, and of course Alan Greene). She’s been working hard on writing her first novel, which is how she received the Write Hard Award, and now she has passed it on to me!

The Write Hard award is given to writers who – you guessed it – work hard on their writing. The official rules of the Write Hard award can be found on Aaron Polson’s blog, and it is my turn to honor someone with this awesome award. Without further ado, here are my choices for the Write Hard Award!

1. Christine Fonseca: Not only does Christine have two non-fiction books about gifted children – and has been on a whirlwind tour of schools and blogs to talk about those books – but she’s also writing and submitting fiction as well. Talk about a full plate! I can’t think of anyone who deserves a Write Hard award more than Christine does :)

2. Sophia Chang: My brand new critiquing buddy and mythology enthusiast, Sophia is insanely talented in so many different areas! I LOVED reading her book (<3 all over the pages from me), and it’s obvious that she’s going to make it as a published author – and probably sooner than I will!

3. Amy R: One of my Wrimos for the past three years, I’ve watched Amy struggle to overcome her fears about writing and critiquing and I have to give her this award for the sheer effort of it all. Plus, I loved what I was able to read! Her journey mirrors mine so much, and I know that if she keeps writing hard she’ll realize her dream.

4. Alyson Grauer: I’ve known Aly for almost a decade now, and I’m always amazed by her creative spirit and trudge-through-the-Chicago-winter work attitude. She’s always busy, she’s always got a flair for life, and she’s always fun to write with. Plus Mio’s in love with her muse. What more can you ask for?

5. The Asiagoans: Of course my Asiagoans are on this list. These guys rock. My Hometree group of writers who are working together to write the best novels that we can and get them out into the world. Sarah, Mina, Matt, Lindsay and Angela all deserve the Write Hard award :)

6. Angela Perry: Although she has no blog that I know of to officially receive the award Angela is still an awesome hard worker who is helping me with the editing process. Not only does she have to write her own book, but she has become my official task-master, and that’s no small job!

Congrats to all the Write Hard award recipients!

I’m Sticking Around Blog Award!

I’m finally back from my computer meltdown (backup EVERYTHING guys, seriously. I lost all of my photos. My only consolation is that I have my writing in several places because I’ve already lost two whole books to a computer crash) and my body meltdown (stomach flu all weekend). I’m still working on getting the extremely decrepit scanner hooked in to the brand new fancy computer who thinks the scanner has the plague, but I’ll get them to hold hands soon and scan in some stickies. In the meantime, I’m sending you all to some of the other blogs that have become my favorites over this NaNo season, and which get my first ever blog award:

Roni Loren, *Fiction Groupie*: http://fictiongroupie.blogspot.com/ This is actually a blog that I’ve been reading for a long time, but she just had a Crit Partner Matchmaking post that is very much worth looking into. I found a very promising critique partner in the comments section :)

Misha, My First Book: http://sylmion.blogspot.com/ She posts on everything from school to writing, and you’ll be amazed by how much she can get done in a day.

Claudie A., NaNo ML: http://claudiea.blogspot.com/ All sorts of wonderful little thoughts on writing, on how to deepen characters and make worlds (and words!) come to life.

J. Rosemary Moss, Ready for Arkham: http://jrosemarymoss.blogspot.com/ The “Creative Draw of the Day” Tarot Cards (with explanations as to what each means for her writing) are reason enough to visit this blog, but the owner is also a lovely, encouraging person!

Ellen Brickley, Pink Tea and Paper: http://ellenbrickley.blogspot.com/ I’m not sure if it’s the pretty background or the weekly microfiction that keeps me coming back to this blog, but I have a feeling it’s the author’s voice more than anything.

Unfortunately, since my copy of Photoshop is connected to the scanner getting along with the computer I haven’t been able to actually MAKE the award graphic yet. But I will post it when I do and let the winners know they can pick it up :) It’s finally here! Feel free to collect and stick(!) on your blog :)

What are some of your favorite blogs that you will always stick with?

Sticky #61

Well guys, NaNo has officially started in some parts of the world, and is only two hours away from starting here in Charleston, SC! And as a NaNo Eve Treat (no Tricks here!) I’ve decided to upload one final sticky before the writing craziness starts. And even better? It’s from this year’s NaNo Novel, Book of Souls.

Imagine if you could remember hating the people in your last life that you were born to in this one? It would probably make you a little bitter about life. Probably make you angry. And probably make you the antagonist in my NaNo Novel :)   I love my antagonists – from Pike in Fie Eoin to the Manticore in Phooka Tales to Eros in Apollo and Daphne, a good antagonist can make or break a book. If your antagonist can’t get your protagonist off their butt and doing things then you don’t have a book. Please don’t neglect your antagonist while you are waxing poetic about your awesome protagonist this November!

And speaking of awesome, I received my first Blog Award today! Margo over at Writing at High Altitude has given me my choice of five awards, and I’ve chosen The Beautiful Blogger Award (it goes with my white/simple theme the best). You should certainly go check out her blog – she’s got the greatest posts on characters and newly released books!

You should also go check out “This is How I Get It Done” at www.doycetesterman.com – the inspiration for the NaNoWriMo Blogchain!

See you all once the madness of NaNo has started. Happy Noveling!
