Custom of the Week: Epona

Happy day after Easter all! I hope you’re all recovering well from sugar-induced comas (or wine-induced comas, if you don’t eat sugar). Today’s pony is super awesome because the customizer had to break the legs off and re-attach them to get the pose! That’s dedication to art, right there, and if you click on the photo you’ll be taken to a Facebook album that shows the progress of the pony as it’s being made.

Isn’t that so cool? I love the movement and the colors! Gorgeous!

Update #10

The pony is done! Well, my part of the pony is done at least :) I’m very happy with the way it turned out. The paint job is even, and as long as it doesn’t get wet it should stay that way. If you weren’t following along last night on Twitter no worries, I’ll finally be posting the photos next week. I’ll also ask Kal to take photos as she finishes the pony, so you can follow along with the entire process start to finish and see what goes into making the customs I feature every week (this pony is much more simple than most of those customs, though!).

I’m also happy to say that my sister finished reading NAMELESS and loved it. She also finally loved Timin – but not until his very last scene :P To celebrate I wrote another scene that has been bugging me for the past couple months. It’s set just after the Yule scene I posted in December and features drunk Kindra and Gar making out a little bit later that night. Because you can never have too many sex-scenes in a novel, right? Especially if one scene later you’re going to completely tear the characters apart for a good hundred pages or so. I am so mean to them.

I read through NAMELESS last week since I was feeling so down, which is the first time since I sent it off to my critters, and I finally see some of the weak areas they were talking about (Kaye and Bryant, anyone?). So I have another couple scenes that need to be written and added just for pacing’s sake. And I should have the big edit back by April 20th! I’m nervous and excited. If it comes back with no major changes I should be able to do the last edit and start querying in May. Later than I was hoping, but I’ve acquired a great deal of patience with this book.

And last but not least, the final payment on my car went through. I now officially own Pep, and that is a great highlight to end the update on :)

Custom of the Week: Mab

I try to always link to the DeviantArt page of the customizer when I do my custom of the week features (if you click the pony photos, they should take you there), but this week’s feature links instead to a tumblr of Custom Ponies! It’s quite exciting, since I haven’t seen some of these ponies before :D And you might remember today’s customizer from Demona, or might recognize the character from The Dresden Files.

Mab, by Carissa

Look at all the glitter! Her hooves, her snowflake, even her hair shines :D I love everything about it.

Fie Eoin Friday: Timin

Happy Birthday to Kindra and Kaye! To celebrate, I’m posting a FEF that’s not a cut scene or backstory. This is actual, honest to goodness, novel. And it’s a character that you haven’t met yet: Timin!

Remember yesterday when I said I have never met a person who doesn’t love Timin? I finally found that person. It’s my little sister :P I’m sure by the end of the novel she’ll love him just as much as the rest of us do, but as of right now she’s Team Gar (let’s face it, I’m Team Gar too).

And now let me introduce you to Timin, who almost everybody loves ;)

The walk back to Gaerlom was silent and slow, and when they returned Timin threw his spear on the ground and glared at his father. “You should have told me what I was.”

Kaye sat down heavily on the cot, the bowl of balm cradled in her hands. She had cried silently the entire way back but her eyes were dry now, and that hurt Timin even more. His actions had made her cry until there was nothing left. He turned and walked out the door again.

The entire way home, all he had been able to think was “I’m a monster”. Even now as he climbed down into the cove and sat in the sand all he could think was that. As the water crashed against the rocks in the darkness he knew he was a monster for causing Kaye’s banishment from the only people who could help her.

He kept seeing her face as Bryant said she could never return to Aleda. It must have been the same face when she found out her High Priestess had betrayed her. But she didn’t fight back – she accepted it with grace.

“Timin?” It was his father.

Timin didn’t turn around. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

Gabe stopped next to him. “Because you are Gaerlom. And Gaerloms hate and fear my people. If I told you before you would have gone looking for them, and that is too dangerous.”

“But I wouldn’t have gone after Kaye.” Timin finally looked up at his father, but Gabe stared out at the ocean. “She wouldn’t be banished-”

“It is safer that way.”

“Not for her! What if someone finds out?”

Gabe’s jaw hardened. “Then we give her time to run away.”

Timin looked back to the waves until his father sat and spoke. “If you have any questions-”

“Was I born with wings?”

“No.” Gabe dusted the sand from his hands. “Thank Awena – you have enough Gaerlom blood to be born Tarrin.”

“Tarrin?”

“Wingless. It is a Faye word.”

Timin didn’t want to ask the next question, but he had to know the answer now. “And the girl that mom lost? Was she… Tarrin?”

Gabe took a deep breath. “No. She was Faye. The female child is almost always born Faye.”

“So she’s alive?”

He nodded. “Alive and well, from what little I hear.” Gabe finally turned to his son. “She looks different from the rest of her tribe as well.”

Timin had to look away. He had a little sister in Aleda somewhere, flying around on wings and never knowing her real mother and father. “Did mom cut off your wings?”

Gabe laughed, but it held no humor. “No. When she found out I was Faye she tried. She mangled one, but I cut them off myself, to be with her.”

Timin looked at him, trying to imagine his father taking a dagger to his own wings. He had never thought his father was tough compared to all the other men in Gaerlom, but perhaps he was more than Timin could ever give him credit for. “Why? The Faye hate us. I could see it. Why would you turn your back on your tribe?”

Gabe was quiet for a long time. “I was married to a Faye woman before your mother. Things were bad – we had a falling out. I was depressed and one day I walked too close to the coast. I saw your mother and she was not scared of me. She did not know what I was, but still. I watched her for moons before I finally got up the nerve to talk to her. She found out what I was the first time we made love and tried to cut my wings off as I slept. I finished it for her.”

He looked at Timin. “I love your mother, and I love you. I would never leave either of you. But the Faye are my tribe, and I could not put them in danger.”

Timin closed his eyes – he couldn’t knowingly put Gaerlom in danger either. “Is there anything else I should know?”

His father sighed. “Do not fall in love with Kaye. She cannot stay here, and the closer you become the harder it will be to let her leave.”

Timin took a deep breath. It was already too late for that.

Update #9

I have to be honest with you guys, this week kicked my ass. It’s been an absolute rollercoaster ride that has left me exhausted and deflated. I don’t want to write. I don’t want to storyline. I don’t even want to read! All I want to do is kill things in WoW (and even that feels like it would take too much energy right now) and watch mindless TV. Or lay outside in the sun with only the birds to disrupt me.

There have been a couple of highlights for the week, the first being The Hunger Games movie. It was seriously So Good. They nailed the tone of the book, even if they had to change some things. If you want to discuss it in the comments please put a giant SPOILERS tag ahead of your comment.

The second highlight is that I called my parents last night, only to hear that my sister called them earlier that afternoon to complain about THE NAMELESS WARRIOR. Why is this a highlight? Because she was complaining about how good it was! She couldn’t put it down :) Now why didn’t she call me to complain about that? I’ll take all good complaints ;)

And the final highlight is that my new Daughter of Aleda shirt came in the mail! I’ll be wearing it tomorrow for Kindra and Kaye’s birthday :) And if I can get my act together tonight I’ll put up a new Fie Eoin Friday tomorrow in honor of their birthday. Maybe something with Fennec. Or Timin. I don’t think you guys have met Timin yet, and like I said a couple weeks ago: I have yet to meet someone who doesn’t like Timin.

I won’t be online a whole lot the next few weeks, although I’m not going on hiatus again. I’ll still be posting Updates and Customs. But if you’re looking for me on Twitter or G+ and can’t find me just know that everything is fine and I’ll be back soon :) You can always email me (rebeccaenzor@gmail.com) – those go straight to my phone and I’m much more likely to reply.

See you soon, my lovely Aledans! Don’t forget to raise a toast to Kindra and Kaye tomorrow :)

Top Ten Sci-Fi/Fantasy Custom Ponies!

Hey all! I’m over at Marcy Kennedy’s blog today, guest posting about my top ten favorite SF/F custom ponies! Some of them haven’t even be featured on this blog yet, so you’ll definitely want to check them out if you’re a fan of the Custom of the Week.

Custom of the Week: Spiral Hill

As chance may have it, we posted Jack Skellington two weeks ago as the Custom of the Week, and this week’s custom is from the same movie! Spiral Hill has miniature figures of both Jack and Sally (Jack on the head, Sally on the back with the tombstones), but is a representation of the amazing scenery that The Nightmare Before Christmas takes place in, rather than the characters themselves.

The weird swirly (technically a spiral) nose and paint job are really cool looking. As are the tiny pumpkins!

Update #8

I am so excited today, Aledans. Not only does The Hunger Games open at midnight tonight (I’m going tomorrow at 7pm!), but one of my lovely Asiagoans drew this beautiful picture for The Nameless Warrior! I’ve had the idea for a logo of a spear covered in wisteria for years, and now I own a picture of it! I’ll be adding it to all of my past Fie Eoin Friday posts over the next few days, so if you get a ton of emails or RSS feeds saying that a post was updated, that’s all it is (I don’t think it emails or re-posts into the feed when I update a blog post, but I have no idea). I’ve also made this picture the header on my Facebook Page for the switch to Timeline.

In other goods news, I finally dyed the pony! And failed miserably :P Turns out those brand new ponies have a harder plastic, and after an hour of boiling it in a full bottle of dye I only managed to turn it from yellow to orange. I’ll be painting it brown this weekend, and then I’ll put up a blog post with tons of photos so you can see my epic fail and (hopefully) even more epic save!

I’m still reading the same books as last week, although I’ve thrown in GOLIATH for fun because I knew it would be a quick read (the other two are very violent and heavy, I needed to mix it up with something a little fun and light). I’ve also been playing tons of WoW this week. Hubs bought Kindra a bunch of new gear (I’m very bad at buying new gear, or selling old gear, or doing anything other than letting my cat fight for me) and took her to Northrend, which is so much fun compared to Outland! There’s even a Doctor Who type quest in the area I’m hanging out at now :P

On the writing front I’m still storylining the third Nameless book. It’s going a bit slow, but things usually do the first time through (storylining Pike’s Revenge was easier, because I already wrote a version, and storylined another version – I knew the characters really well at that point). There’s a huge language barrier in Book Three between the Aledans and the other “tribe” that is making it difficult as well. Still, getting some good ideas – some of this storyline might even make it into the actual book! ;)

And in a final bit of news I’ll be guest posting at Marcy Kennedy’s blog with my Top Ten favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy custom ponies on March 26th! Some of them I haven’t been able to feature on this blog yet, so there will be some new faces mixed in with the old. Definitely check it out :)

What exciting things have been happening in your life this week? Are you going to see The Hunger Games this weekend?

Custom of the Week: Ralph

When The Simpsons first came on the air way back when (I mean, WAY back when!) I was too young to watch it. And once I was old enough I wasn’t really interested until I met my husband, who has always been a huge fan. So when I saw today’s pony I had to feature it. It’s so perfect! Plus, who doesn’t like unicorns?

Ralph "I'm a unicorn!" by Alexia

The ice cream cone! Oh the ice cream cone :) How totally goofy – I love it!

Update #7

I apologize for missing last week’s Update, but I experienced my very first migraine the night before and I was still feeling pretty miserable.

I am happy to say that I have finally prepped the pony for dyeing! I’ll be doing the actual dyeing tonight – I had no idea how hard it was to rip the heads of the G4 ponies off. The original line of ponies are super easy to take apart, but these tiny little new ones have this crazy thing that attaches their head and is nearly impossible to get out. But I got it out (I had no exacto knife, so I used a stick pin and just stabbed it over and over :P ) and got the hair out, and am ready to do the dyeing tonight. I’ll post photos on Twitter!

I haven’t gotten to Ryan’s edits yet. Boo me.

On the reading front I’ve started STORM OF SWORDS by George R.R. Martin and THE PENITENT ASSASSIN by my friend Shawn Wickersheim. I also read the very short THE GODDESS HUNT by Aimee Carter and now I’m buzzing with excitement for GODDESS INTERUPTED! So many good books, so little time.

As for writing stuff I’ve storylined a novella for Sipi that takes place the summer after Pike’s Revenge. Karigan has a tendency to take over any book she’s a part of, and the novella will really show what kind of man Sipi grows into. Plus it’s set in Gaerlom during the big whale hunt, so you get to learn more about Gaerlom as well.

Gaerlom = lots of Timin, and I have yet to meet a person who doesn’t like Timin.

I’ve started to outline the third novel as well, although it’s going slowly. Karigan is trying to take over again (the story is about her twin sons) and I don’t even know the names of most of the characters. If you’d like to help name the warriors come on over to G+ and play “Name that Warrior!” – I’ve already used a couple names from the list :)

And last, but not least, I’ve started the final round of revisions on The Nameless Warrior (Fie Eoin). I plan to take it slow and make sure everything is as good as I can possibly get it before I start querying (May?). I could definitely use some positive energy to help with this! If you have any extra, please send it my way ;)
