Announcing #PonyFest14!

It’s finally here! PonyFest14! For those of you who’ve been hanging around the blog for the past couple years, you know what this means: my blog is being taken over by My Little Ponies for the next month. All the rules and prizes for the contest are below, but first we have a custom by the PonyFest customizer: Kalavista. And she’s for sale! $49 with free US shipping for all PonyFest14 participants – if you’d like to buy her, let me know and I’ll get in touch with Kal for you.

She has tiny fangs and bat-wings! Kal has graciously agreed to customize this year’s winning pony as well. And based on her beautiful work, I think you’ll be happy with the results (click her name above to go to her website and see all of her beautiful customs).

And now for PonyFest14!

 The Rules:

-either draw your own pony or use the pony creator to make a pony based on your novel. Choose colors for the body, mane/tail, and eye color, as well as a symbol. Ponies can be earthers, unicorns or pegasi (no ponies with both a horn and wings please). No Twice As Fancy symbols (the symbol design can’t cover the whole body).

-all ponies must come from a full-length, original work (no fanfics). Unpublished novels are OK. Feel free to plug your published novel in the post!

-it can be a pony based on a character, setting, or theme from your novel. You can make more than one pony, but they must be voted on as a whole, from the same book, and only ONE of those ponies will be customized.

-write up a short description of your pony(s), and a one sentence tag-line for the book.

-post the pony(s) on your blog by Sunday September 28th and reply here with the link to that post.

-from October 5th through 17th visit the other blogs and vote for your favorite pony!

-winners will be announced on October 19th!

The Vote: This year there will be two votes: one popular, one panel. The panel vote is made up of pony customizers including Kalavista, LightningSilver-Mana, jupiternwndrlnd, RevRuby, Nichi Tsukinoko, TexasGal, and Saja, among others. The popular vote will be the same as in years past.

The Prizes: The winner of the panel vote will have their pony made into a real custom pony by Kalavista, plus receive a copy of her book, The Secret of Shadow! And this year the prize is even bigger, because the winner will also receive a copy of Spookygirl by Jill Baguchinsky, Angelfire by Courtney A Moulton, Postcards From Asgard by Amalia Dillin, Ink by Amanda Sun (the first PonyFest winner!), and Inspired by Danielle Shipley (last year’s PonyFest winner!).

The winner of the popular vote will receive their choice of Mane Six pony, plus a copy of The Secret of Shadow by Kalavista, SUPERPOWERED by Jamie Butterworth, The Goddess Test by Aimee Carter, Forged by Fate by Amalia Dillin, and I’d Rather Not Be Dead and Pride, Prejudice and Curling Rocks by Andy Brokaw.

Restrictions: The custom pony will not have clothes or accessories (no sculpty/clay will be used), so make a representation of the character, rather than a carbon-copy right down to their underwear. No Alicorns/Unipegs, Twice-As-Fancy symbols (symbols that cover the entire body) or sitting poses. Open to US/Canada residents only (you can still play, but only US/C residents can win the prize, sorry!).

Good luck everyone!

Custom of the Week: G1 Pinkie Pie

Happy Monday, Aledan Merfolk! In anticipation of PonyFest14 kicking off next weekend, I’ll be featuring customs from the panel of judges for the next couple of months. First up is Lightningsilver-Mana, who we’ve seen before with the Sailor Moon Scouts, Ganondorf, and Queen Regina. It’s a rainy, grey day here, so let’s brighten it up with some 80’s-rific Pinkie Pie!

So much pink! I can totally see Pinkie Pie looking like this as an 80’s girl.

Don’t forget to stop by next week for the kickoff of PonyFest14! All the rules and prizes will be listed :) And if you want to be part of the panel of judges there’s still time! Email me at rebeccaenzor@gmail.com

Custom of the Week: Fire Drake

Happy Monday, Aledan Merfolk! This morning it was 70F, which was amazing considering Saturday’s 105F felt like an oven. A really really humid oven. So it’s kind of funny that this week of cooler weather has a fire-inspired dragon-pony custom (I still haven’t decided if that makes it a drony or a pogon).

So sparkly! I love the scales and her tail (not to mention that wild hair!)

Custom of the Week: Ocean Treasure

Happy Monday, Aledan Merfolk! I’ve just had myself a nice, long weekend (4.5 days!) and I’m feeling so refreshed I woke up an hour early today. I spent most of my long weekend editing the first half of Speak the Ocean and hanging out at the pool reading a new mermaid book, so I’m feeling particularly oceany today. And that’s perfect, because today’s custom is an ocean-themed pony.

Don’t you just want to dive into that hair and swim around?

Custom of the Week: Orion

Happy Sunday, Aledan Merfolk! We’re waiting for the rain to pass so we can go to the pool, so I thought I’d actually get the Custom of the Week up on a Sunday (Monday’s are my normal summer schedule). And if it stops raining, hopefully we’ll be able to have a bonfire tonight and watch the stars. Speaking of stars, today’s custom is a star-themed stallion: Orion! He’s one of my favorite constellations (Cassiopia is my other favorite), and Orion even made an entrance in APOLLO AND DAPHNE.

How cool that he glows in the dark like I real constellation!

Custom of the Week: Sailor Moon Scouts

Happy Sunday, Aledan Merfolk! I’m typing this on my brand new laptop! :D Gotta love back to school sales and tax free weekends. And to celebrate, we have several custom ponies today. They may not look like regular G4 ponies, but they were all made from Princess Celestia molds. And I’d name them all for you, but I’ve never actually watched Sailor Moon :P

I love all the hand-sewn clothes on these girls! And the adorable hairdos.

Custom of the Week: Electric Breeze

Happy Monday, Aledan Merfolk! I had food poisoning on Saturday, so I was too busy making up for it yesterday to get this week’s custom pony up.  The food poisoning thing worked out rather well though, because I spent the day re-reading StO between trips to the bathroom, and figured out where the weak spots are and what needs to happen in the next few scenes to get it where it needs to go. It’s time to break my mermaid >: )

But enough about mermaids, today we have a dragon pony custom. I’m still not sure if it’s a Pragon or a Drony, so for now we’ll call it awesome!

Look at those bright colors! And he’s HUGE – 10″ tall!
