Princess Erie has done the impossible: she’s transformed from a mermaid into a human. And no one, human or merfolk, knows how or why. It’s better than being dead in a net, though, and now she’s able to see the human world with her own eyes, instead of through a laptop screen on the other side of a fishtank wall. She meets mermaid cosplayers, plays a real game of tag with the children who came to her show at Oceanica, and learns how to eat fish the human way (no biting the heads off). But below the surface, trouble brews as the King demands his daughter’s return, and her incompetent brother tries his best to land a blow the humans can’t ignore. As Erie delights in the human world and all it’s wonders, the merfolk grow more desperate to “save” her, resulting in an attack on the shore that gets more merfolk killed than humans.

Erie comes up with a plan to humanize her people and stop the bloodshed. But when the humans brazenly attack the Seadom, she must chose which side of the shore she’s on: human, or merfolk?
