It’s really funny, sometimes, how inspiration works. I wrote a scene a long time ago in the original Fie Eoin that talked about Bryant making Kaye a bracelet that would proclaim her Faye. I don’t remember at the time where I got the idea from, but I liked it because it mirrored the mark that the warriors get, proclaiming them as Eoin’s chosen. So it became one of those explainationless things that just sort of happens in a novel.
Just this past week, while I was working and thinking about last week’s sticky for Aleda, I realized that the Faye wear the bracelets because her hand was stuck under a rock when a volcano exploded. Despite their wings the bracelet ties them to the earth, because she was their wingless mother. And I realized why they don’t use iron/steel in any of their weapons – it was a knife that killed Aleda (the volcano exploded only as she was dying) so the Faye swear off using any type of iron/steel for killing – even plants.
Yeah, the Faye are total hippies 🙂
