Thank God It’s Over!
Today is Dec 2nd, which means that NaNoWriMo is officially Over and Done With. No more counting words. No more crazy plot ninjas. No more stressing about being ML and not winning.
And I didn’t win, my friends. I didn’t even come close to winning NaNo. But I did meet some really great characters (both in my book and at write-ins!), and find some really interesting places, and plan out some Really exciting storylines. I obviously wasn’t ready to dive head-first into Book of Souls, so I’ll let it sit for a little while and simmer until I am ready. And in the meantime I’ll be working on editing Fie Eoin.
I’m actually pretty excited for Fie Eoin. I’ve hit my stride with it, and while I’ve already found a few places in the last chapter that could use another coat of polish it’s starting to come together really well. I’m tying up all the loose ends I left in the first (and second) draft. I’m working out all the little quirks of the characters (and there are many!). I’m going through with a fine-toothed comb and fixing any little problem spots that I can. No more floating heads and dialogue that sounds the same no matter who is speaking. No more random scenes that don’t move the plot forward.
My goal is to have Fie Eoin out on submission by the time the next NaNo rolls around. And then I’ll be able to say Thank God That’s Over.
Good luck, NaNo Friends, on your amazing accomplishments for the rest of the year. And cheers for writing any number of words last month. You participated in an awesome thing, and I hope you got as much out of NaNo as I always have.
