Wrong.
I love Fie Eoin, and working on it feels like going home to me, but it’s not my favorite. It’s a really really closed second, maybe even mostly tied for first, but the Rebecca Stories are actually my favorite. Writing Rebecca is the easiest thing in the world for me to do. And because of the world she lives in and the way it accepts other worlds and the doorways between them, I can send Rebecca anywhere I want (even to Fie Eoin) and put her in any situation, and it’s world-acceptable. There doesn’t have to be some sort of crazy Alternative Universe comic-book-thing going on. It’s completely normal for her to step through a doorway and find herself someplace else. It’s what makes her stories so fun.
Also, her raging selfish bitchiness doesn’t hurt. It’s a lot of fun to write a character who does whatever they want all the time regardless of the outcome, and still make her into the good guy. People cheer for Rebecca, even though if they met someone like her in real life they would probably wish the worst things imaginable on her. If I had to deal with a Rebecca I know I would. And that’s the other reason why I like her world: Lane has to deal with Rebecca in all her bitchy glory and still he’s in absolute love with the woman. It’s kinda like being addicted to cigarettes – he just needs another hit (sometimes she literally hits him).
So yes, Rebecca and Lane and their cracked-out relationship and their time-and-space-bending world win my vote for favorite project/universe.
