Speak The Ocean’s Re-Debut Day!

Happy Tuesday, Merfolk! Today is the day Speak The Ocean is back on shelves as a self-published indie novel! You can find it as an ebook or print book in your favorite stores*, buy an unsigned copy direct from me, or ask your local library to carry it! And if you want a signed copy, I’ll have those once I return from the Mermaid Festival in Aberdeen, WA this weekend!

It’s been a long, wild ride, from getting an agent and publisher, to getting my rights reverted back to me, to deciding to put it back out myself. I read A LOT of information about self-publishing, and asked a lot of questions, because I wanted to do it right. (And then I still screwed up formatting in multiple ways, but I fixed it all! Self-publishing is not for the faint of heart)

All said, I’m really proud of the work I’ve put into this book. I’m grateful for everyone who took a chance on it back in 2019, and I’m grateful to everyone who is excited to read it now!

I’m also so thankful that I have a chance to use my murderous mermaids to show people that forcing captive orcas and dolphins to perform for audiences is wrong. Only five days ago, Inouk passed away after 25 years of captivity in France. Last year, Tokitae, who was caught only a few miles from my current home, died after 53 years of captivity in Miami. Her mother still swims free in the waters surrounding my home. Since the original publication of StO five years ago, sixteen orcas have died in captivity, many of them forced to perform for over ten years. At least 56 orcas still remain in captivity worldwide, including 18 at Sea World parks in the United States.

So while today is a celebration, it’s also a reminder that there’s still work to be done. Grab a copy of Speak the Ocean, and then learn more about Whale and Dolphin Conservation, and what you can do to help!

Last but not least, come back on Friday for a sneak peek of StO2: See The Depths! But only if you’ve finished reading the first book, because there are massive spoilers 😉

*There’s a third-party version of StO showing on Amazon for a ridiculous price. Please don’t buy that overpriced book! The print price is $17.99, and anyone who charges more than that is not affiliated with me!
