Another sticky that comes from my musings on mythology in the context of Fie Eoin. This time I was working on the Hero Myth, in which one person (the hero) goes on a journey (physical, mental, or emotional), has to fight against many things, and ends up with some gift for the community. In this case, the gift is her life as a warrior for the community’s protection and safety. Kindra’s main goal in the novel is to become a warrior, and I realized that in the first draft I was giving her this gift much too soon, after too little fighting. Since I wasn’t sure when to give her this gift, I wrote down all of the major fight scenes she takes place in during the book and carried the sticky around with me and mulled over it for weeks before I finally decided when she would receive this mark of distinction.
Eoin, if you recall Sticky #1, is a horse. Originally Kindra received him as a gift for becoming a warrior, so I had to figure out some way to get her in possession of a horse well before she actually becomes a warrior in this draft. Everything has fallen into place now, and I’m very pleased with the results.
