Sticky #53

Happy Mother’s Day!  Today I wanted to bring you a sticky about a mother, and I found this little gem while ripping out all of the pages of Fie Eoin from my notebooks to put in a folder.  If you remember Aleda from Sticky #27 then you should have some idea of what this sticky is about: Aleda, the Mother of Us All.

Fie Eoin, and before them the Faye, believe in a Mother Goddess named Aleda.  For a long time I thought that’s as far as that little bit of information went, but as it turns out Aleda was a real woman so far back in the Faye’s history that she’s been turned into a legend and a goddess.  She was the woman who stood up to the people of Gaerlom and took the winged children to the mountains so they wouldn’t be killed.  She had no wings herself, and she had no idea how to survive in the mountains, but she wouldn’t let the tribe kill anymore children just because they were different.  In the end, Aleda died protecting them and she was known as the “mother of us all” to the Faye children.  But as you can see, she was scared and doubted she would be able to save them.

I have a huge respect for the women who are strong enough to overcome their fear and become a mother to a child, whether their own or someone else’s.  Enjoy your day of rest and worship and become a Mother Goddess of your own for one day 🙂
